The Smart Technology for a Smarter Business Program is a highly practical, ready-to-use, and customizable curriculum for business and office technology training. Designed as a resource for small business trainers, the curriculum is also ideal for use in schools. The curriculum was developed under a US$1.5 million sponsorship provided by HP and is offered free.

As a teacher or trainer, you may choose to use some or all of the content and activities contained in the curriculum.

Nineteen business topics are covered within five subject areas:

• Operations and Management
• Finance
• Communication
• Marketing
• Technology Management

Each topic offers approximately 2 hours of learning time, with the entire curriculum providing at least 40 — 50 hours.

The curriculum consists of several components that create a dynamic and rich experience for the learner. Each topic consists of the following:

Virtual Entrepreneurs and their Stories, which set the stage and help participants relate to the business topics. Animations are provided for trainer use, and the Virtual Entrepreneur stories are woven throughout the training. Click here to see a sample

Business Scenarios, on which participants work through small-group activities.

Technology Demonstrations, which prepare students for the technology activity.

Instructor-led Technology Activities, which help participants build their skills on real equipment and software.

Debriefs through Large-Group Discussions, which enable participants to reflect on the applications of technology to their businesses.

Self-Assessments, which help participants capture their learnings and create action plans.

Activity Booklets and Exercise Files, which are given to participants, who also can keep the materials created in class, to Take Home.

Trainer guides are provided to help guide you through each of the business topics and individual components. Use one or all of the components to build or enhance your own training course or program!
